What is Vestibular Rehabilitation?
This specialized form of therapy is an exercise-based program designed to alleviate primary symptoms along with any secondary issues. For most people with a vestibular disorder, the deficit is permanent because the amount of vestibular function gained back is minimal. However, patients can feel and function better through compensation. The brain learns to use other senses to substitute for the deficient vestibular system. The health of the nervous system, including the brainstem, cerebellum, visual, and somatosensory sensations, is important for mapping out the recovery that can be restored through compensation.
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)
Your doctor will need to identify the type of BPPV you are suffering from; then we can customize a treatment plan for you. First, we’ll run through different repositioning exercises to treat BPPV and spinning symptoms. If dizziness is still present, we’ll treat using habituation exercise and/or balance training.
